Birkenhead Ferry Terminal Case Study

AN ENORMOUS UNDERTAKING SETS A NEW STANDARD FOR AUCKLAND GANGWAYS

CLIENT: HEB Construction and Auckland Transport
PROJECT: Design and build of the complete Birkenhead Ferry Terminal
YEAR: 2012
LOCATION: Birkenhead, Auckland

THE CHALLENGE
A south west fetch causing large sea state with increased wave action. Manson had the task of designing the full articular aluminium structure to sit atop a moving pontoon. The conditions presented a number of potential difficulties that required a robust solution across all aspects of the design, materials, fabrication and installation.

THE SOLUTION
Manson incorporated a specially designed bush and saddle system which is now standard across all Auckland Transport gangways. Manson was responsible for the design and installation of the full pontoon landing, structures, fences and gangway gates. The outcome was a complete solution that catered for the specific requirements, while setting a benchmark for similar gangways throughout the marine environment.

REFERENCE
“We were impressed with the professionalism of Manson Engineering. Attention to detail was evident from design through to the installation of a high quality product. Their willingness to adapt to changing circumstances also made them a pleasure to work.” James Lake | Project Manager - HEB Structures
